Penn Mutual Expands Life of Significance Award
February 3, 2020
As part of our continued support of collegiate rugby, Penn Mutual has announced a significant expansion to the Life of Significance Award.
All 10,000 men and women’s rugby players who participate in the National Small College Rugby Organization (NSCRO) are eligible for the award. From among the finalists, Penn Mutual will present the award to the rugby student-athlete who exemplifies the shared values of integrity, respect, loyalty and community.
“Over the past five years we have seen so many rugby players give back to their communities in extraordinary ways,” said Penn Mutual Chairman and CEO Eileen McDonnell. “By expanding this award we hope to provide the opportunity to recognize more individuals who are committed to providing a better future for all.”
The award has the potential to impact almost 400 programs across the country that compete in NSCRO.
“NSCRO and its members share the same values that we do as an organization,” said McDonnell. “We are thrilled to continue the Life of Significance Award and present it to one of the organization’s many deserving members.”
About the Award
This prestigious national award was inspired by the book, “Living a Life of Significance,” by Joseph Jordan, which details the positive impact the life insurance industry has on society.
All NSCRO rugby student-athletes are now eligible for nomination, whether they play 15s or 7s.
The winner receives:
- $5,000 donation to the charity of their choice
- $1,000 worth of Rhino Rugby Gear for their club
- Attendance and recognition at the United States Rugby Foundation Hall of Fame dinner
- An on-campus special event recognizing the winner and their commitment to these values
April 21, 2020: Update – 2020 Life of Significance Award
Throughout this rapidly evolving pandemic, we have continued to monitor its far-reaching impact on American life—including the sports we love. Penn Mutual has prided itself on doing the right thing—acting with integrity, respecting others and maintaining a shared sense of community—with a long-term view and continue to do so today.
After much discussion and careful consideration, the decision has been made to postpone the Life of Significance Award. While there may not be an award presented in 2020, we know that the college rugby family will continue to make a positive impact on their communities. We look forward to celebrating those stories in the future.
We appreciate those individuals who took the time to nominate a player for the award. We know that many of these student-athletes will continue to be recognized for their efforts and leadership. We look forward to seeing everyone back on the pitch and active in your communities soon. Until then, stay safe.
