Penn Mutual Empowers Women On and Off the Pitch

Moving into year five of our sponsorship of rugby, we are thrilled at the growth of the sport and the positive impact it is having on college campuses and the national teams for both men and women. One of the main reasons Penn Mutual decided to get behind rugby was the gender balance that exists within the sport. Men and women play with the same size ball on the same size pitch and by the same rules.

Over the last five years we have gotten to know the rugby community. In 2015, we signed on to be the title sponsor of the Penn Mutual Collegiate Rugby Championship (CRC) and the National Small College Rugby Organization (NSCRO), and ever since have seen tremendous opportunity for women’s rugby players to play on an elite stage. While there is still a lot of work to be done to advance the women’s game, we are thrilled with the progress over the last five years and look forward to an even brighter future.

As part of our sponsorship of NSCRO, we have been able to provide an opportunity for talented female student-athletes from across the country to play for the NSCRO Selects Team, a team of NSCRO all-stars that competes in the Las Vegas Invitational and the Penn Mutual CRC every year. We hope that we are helping provide a memorable experience along with the exposure necessary to take their game to the next level.

In addition to impacting the game at the collegiate level, we are happy to support these athletes as they pursue their dreams of playing on the international stage. In the past, we have sponsored the United States Women’s Falcons as they competed in the Las Vegas Invitational. Kristen Thomas has served as a brand ambassador for Penn Mutual and Alev Kelter completed an internship with our company in 2018.

Our support of rugby directly aligns with our values as a company.  At Penn Mutual, we are committed to shared leadership. Currently, Penn Mutual is only one of seven companies in the Fortune 1000 that has both a female CEO and CFO.  Over forty percent of our Board of Trustees is made up of women, and women make up a large segment of our leadership roles. More and more women are joining our team as financial advisers. We are committed to empowering women in the work place and hope to see some of these talented women’s rugby players filling our ranks in the near future as employees, advisers and customers.

Penn Mutual is proud to support women on and off the pitch. We look forward to playing a continuing role in the growth of the women’s rugby and supporting the student athletes as they navigate life.
