Notre Dame Rugby Player Committed to Community

November 7, 2019

Scout Muzikowski, a member of the Notre Dame women’s rugby club, is a committed leader on and off the pitch. For her work as a leader and mentor, Muzikowski was nominated for the 2019 Penn Mutual Life of Significance Award—an award given to a collegiate rugby player that demonstrates shared values of integrity, respect, loyalty and community.

Muzikowski has a very strong relationship with her father and looks to him as a role model. Over the past few summers, she has spent time volunteering at the Chicago Hope Academy—a charter school in Chicago founded by her father. With a family instilled mantra of “wherever you go, you should always be making an impact,” Muzikowski has dedicated herself to mentoring the youth in both her native Chicago and near Notre Dame’s campus.

“I am very passionate about kids. I think it is every important when I get involved in their lives that I show them that love and that passion,” Muzikowski said.

As a psychology major at Notre Dame, her support for the community is intertwined with her studies. Muzikowski spends five to ten hours a week with a student who has high functioning autism, helping to work on his social skills and preparing him for life as an adult.

“Scout exemplifies the values and the pillars of rugby. She defines everything that you want a good person to be,” said Notre Dame coach Ricardo Ramirez.

Muzikowski has an outstanding commitment to serving others and she still works hard to help youth have a better future, consistently demonstrating the values of integrity, respect, loyalty and community on a daily basis.
